Thuravoor Grama Panchayat is situated in Cherthala Taluk of Alappuzha District and comes under Pattanakkad Block Panchayat. The Panchayat covers an area of 19.18 sq. km and is uniquely located between the Vembanad Lake to the east and the Arabian Sea to the west. Kuthiathode and Vayalar form its southern and northern boundaries respectively.
According to the 2011 Census, Thuravoor has a population of 24,855, including 12,860 males and 11,905 females.

Fishing and allied activities constitute an important source of livelihood, particularly in the coastal and backwater areas.
